Arrgh, I'm on Fire! About us.
Ok, so there’s me, James Luton, my brother, Chris Luton and my two mates, Ian Flowers and Alex Ingman. Our team is called Arrgh; I’m on Fire (a tribute to Will Ferrell in Talladega Nights). The four of us, desperate for adventure, and a few shits and giggles, decided to take on the mighty Africa Rally this year.

What we are doing?
We are going to drive our car (a 15yr old, rusted out, 998cc, Fiat Uno RS Fire) from Waterford, Ireland to Kribi, Cameroon. On our epic journey we will be subjected to searing heat, navigating some of the harshest terrain and savage deserts on the planet and pushing our completely unsuitable car to its very limits. Not forgetting the possibility of bandits, landmines and whatever this crazy continent can throw at us... We can’t wait!!

Why-o-why are we doing this?
Well it’s going to be an amazing adventure… but it’s not all fun and games. As a bonus we have the opportunity to raise money for charity.

The Charities:
We are aiming to raise at least €1500 to be split evenly between 2 charities, Send a Cow and the Cameroon Wildlife Aid Fund (CWAF).
Send a Cow is a charity that enables poor farmers in Africa to become self-reliant by providing them with livestock, training and advice. They work with some of the most vulnerable groups in Africa, including children orphaned by war, families affected by AIDS, and disabled people. www.sendacow.org.uk
CWAF aims to ensure Cameroon's primates have a healthy future. Working with the government, local communities and other ecological groups around the world, we hope to show people the amazing diversity of wildlife in Cameroon, and explain exactly how and why it should be protected. www.cwaf.org
Once we arrive in Cameroon our car will be put in to an auction by the Adventurists.com and the proceeds will also go to charity.

The Car
We’re using a Fiat Uno RS Fire for our expedition… unfortunately the RS doesn’t stand for Rally Sport, but it does look like it may catch on fire at any moment. It’s a greenish/rustyish, five door beast of a machine. With its 999cc screamer of an engine, running at 40mpg (of brake fluid) and one luminous wheel, we’re going to take Africa by storm. It’s probably the bestest car in the world and we’ve named it Timmy.

The route (or un-route)
We leave Waterford on the 16th of July heading for London for the official launch from Hyde Park. From there we head to Prague for the big party (and to check out the local talent). Leaving Prague on the 21st of July we head for Gibraltar, Spain and then across to Africa. This is where the fun begins… We’re going straight to Marrakesh (to absorb some local culture), then cruise down the coast of Morocco and into Western Sahara. Then crossing the boarder into Mauritania (dodging landmines) and then down to Dakar, Senegal for cocktails on the beach. We’ll then visit Burkina Faso, Togo & Benin (didn’t know these places existed until now). Then we’re on the home straight, bribing our way through Nigeria we should finally arrive in Kribi, Cameroon around the 9th of August. Don’t worry; we’ll have a drink for you when we get there!

End of the Road

Yes - Unfortunatly, after just shy of 7000 miles, we had to call short to our African adventure in Cotonou, Bennin. Due to budget and time restraints we said a fond farewell to Africa and got our flights home. Amazingly it wasn't Timmy that let us down, our Fiat Uno really was the star of the show, venturing places feared by jeeps and off-roaders.

I'd like to thank everyone who supported us, and I think we exceeded a few peoples expectations. Despite this we're all dissapointed that, after coming so close, we couldn't complete the jouney but have taken away a lot of great memories and some cracking stories.

And fear not, this is not the end of our Adventures as we are already talking about what misadventures we can have next summer...  mopeds to India anyone?
